Time's running out

The deadline (Sept. 30th) for joining CCPL's Staff Organization is rapidly approaching! Membership forms were given out at the Insurance meetings. If you want your membership ($15) deducted from your paycheck, please send the form to Human Resources. If you want to pay by check or cash, Melissa Christakos will be happy to take it. Just make the check out to CCPL Staff Organization and send it to her at Main, TLC.
And if you're a member, you can go to the Holiday Gala, Dec. 16, 2006 for free. It will be at the Charleston Maritime Center again this year. Last year's Gala was great, so don't miss it! If any of you have pictures from last year, please send them to me. I'd love to post some here.

Want to comment?

I've encouraged comments, but I guess I ought to explain how to do that. I had to go to the blog myself to see what to do, since I type in another area. It's pretty straighforward.
The commment section is below each posting. If it says 0 comments, click on that. You'll be taken to another page, Leave A Comment. You can make a comment, create an identity and preview your comment before publishing it.
If there are comments, click on those. You'll see the comments and get an area in which to make your comment. Your comments will be added to others, creating a conversation.
So, start commenting! I'll be checking to see and to respond.

These puppies need you

Want a puppy? Rebecca Wright, Main Circulation, has puppies that need a home. Cute, aren't they? If you're interested, please call her at 805-6836.

Our NLCIS award winners recognized

Wednesday, Sept. 20, the SC State Library held a reception to honor, among other things, some of our staff. Darlene Jackson, Ray Turner, Gerald Moore, Kim Odom and Sheila Matthews were recognized for their excellent work in the Reach 2010 project, which won a NCLIS National Award.

Why a blog?

Thought I'd say why I'm doing this. Three top reasons:

1. learn about new web technologies and how to use them
2. build community within CCPL
3. show even old folks like me can learn new tricks

OK, so blogging isn't that new to many of you. It is to me, in terms of importance, ease of communication, ease of use, flexibility of format. I figure that if I make my baby steps open for all to see, you'll see that it's something that isn't hard. I hope that you'll comment along the way. Be nice, now! I'm a newbie.

Great program!

Dorchester had a Job Fair on 9/14. They had over 1,100 people attend! What a great program.
I'm new to blogging, but I'll try to post one of the pictures Andy Murphy took.

Welcome

Here's a space for us, the staff of CCPL. Let's use this to get to know each other better, to visit, exchange ideas, post pictures of each other, our children, our pets, our hobbies, to share news and special moments in our lives.
