Teen Tech Week

Kudos to John's Island for jumping in to the first annual Teen Tech Week in a big way. They've had a program each day this week and tomorrow's big finale is MySpace in Our Space. I talked to Nancy Wilson yesterday about these programs. She reported that the program attendance has been growing throughout the week, with the MySpace program drawing the most interest. No surprise there! I'll be interested to hear how it went. I commend John's Island hosting these programs and for letting teens know that library staff is aware and using these technologies and for sharing their skills with their community.

Thanks for the great comments about our Teen Tech Week celebration! TTW was a hit at the John's Island Regional Library--we had total of 116 participants in this week long technology fest. Teens and technology just naturaly go together, and Donna Pappas and I had great fun teaching and learning from the teens! Donna and the teens have developed a MySpace page for the John's Island Teen Advisors (JITA). We hope the teens will visit the MySpace page often, as well as the teen blog. We also showed the teens how to IM using meebo.com during the Tech Talk sessions. We later saw the teens IMing using meebo.com and they told us that they love it!

I was really excited when Nancy Wilson took charge of our TTW festivities at John's Island. She did a great job and the teens and I learned lots of new technologies. Nancy has been attending the TechTracks classes and has certainly shared what she has learned. I was thrilled to see our teens using meebo.com to communicate with each other during our TTW programs. Thanks Cynthia for recognizing a job well done!

The thanks goes to Nancy Wilson and the staff at John's Island for taking what they've learned and putting it into action. I'm sure the teens were impressed and you've given them some valuable skills. Way to go!
