Too busy?
Another short gem from Seth Grodin blog, aptly named, Seth's Blog. If you're not familiar with Seth, take a look. He's a marketer and a good, common sense writer. Thought provoking too. One of the non-library blogs I read that almost always has implications for libraries.

"Two Seconds."
Sometimes, busy people need to remind themselves (and us) how busy they are by shaving off the last two seconds of what would otherwise be a pleasant interaction.

Hmm, good food for thought. Just those few extra moments of 'small talk' can make the difference... There is no substitute for good manners and just common care and courtesy of customers instead of treating folks like a mass production of a widget making assembly line process: next, next, next, etc... I'm more inclined to cut food service and restraunteur folks a break as all people have 'off days'. As a former food service worker, it can be a tough job, but it is too important not to mess up a customer's dinning experience because of some unthoughtfullness and indifference to a person having to wait to get seated...
I know what you mean about food service, having been a waitress for a long time. Courtesy is the key, as you mentioned. Or perhaps what used to be called the Golden Rule. How would you like to be treated? We do get busy and forget what a difference a moment can make, especially when people can easily chose to go elsewhere.
