Centre Market

I slogged through the rain Saturday afternoon to come here Nic Butler's program on the 200th anniversary of the Centre Market. From our calendar of events
"On August 1, 2007 Charleston will celebrate the 200th anniversary of the opening of the “Centre Market” on Market Street. Dr. Nicholas Butler, Special Collections manager at the Charleston County Public Library, will present an illustrated lecture on the colorful history of Charleston’s “Centre Market,” including a discussion of the colonial marketplaces that preceded the present site."
It's a fascinating topic and the program was a big success. Many people braved the weather, a true testimony to both Nic and to the lure of Charleston history. Nic will repeat the program on Aug. 28th at 7:00 p.m., so you'll have another chance to hear it.

You might also want to look at today's paper for the final part of the series on the market in The Post and Courier. I hear that there will be cake at the Market on Wednesday.
Thanks to Nic for bringing this important anniversary to the forefront of everyone's attention--including the City of Charleston.

That was a cool program. I wish that I could have spent more time listening, but I had to work.
